Earlier this month, on October 4, 2023, the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops opened in Rome. With this celebration, so beings the next phase of the Universal Synod we have been talking about and participating in for years.

This process started two years ago with listening and discussion sessions within our own diocese. Since then, multiple documents have been produced at different levels, diocesan, regional, national, and continental. Every step of the way, people from across the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings have had a voice in the process, and now you personally have the opportunity to impact this newest phase of the Synod.

On September 18, Bishop Fleming invited all people of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings to pray for this general assembly and to be spiritually connected with that body of representatives throughout the entire month of October. In his letter to the diocese, Bishop Fleming stressed the importance of our prayer for this synodal process. This first session concludes on October 29, 2023, but a second session will be held in October of 2024. The Synod is long from over, and the members of the assembly need our prayers for strength, fortitude, guidance, and wisdom.

Let us trust in the power of prayer. Let us trust in the power of our prayer. And let us trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit as the process of this 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops continues.
