The May crowning is often observed the first of May, but St. Thomas the Apostle parish community celebrates the Mother of God in connection with our mothers at the beginning of each of the Saturday and Sunday liturgies the weekend of Mother’s Day. A family who has joined the parish within the last year carries the crown of flowers and ribbon to adorn the statue of our blessed mother at the East grotto in the nave of the church while the assembly sings a hymn of praise to God in honor of Mary’s discipleship and part in the work of our redemption. Mothers (and Fathers) are at the core of families, and perhaps no one sacrifices more than a loving parent. On Mother’s Day, the St. Thomas Men’s Society (well over 25 volunteers this year), works extra hard to put on a big breakfast for the mothers in our parish. This event has become legendary, as about 300 meals were served this year in our new parish community center. Thank you, mothers, for the sacrifices you have made, and the faith you have shared with us!
