Over the years many people have asked what the significance is of coins left on a military veteran’s footstone or headstone. The coins left may be a penny, nickel, dime, or quarter. Each denomination of coin has a very specific and special meaning. The coins to the left list the explanation of each coin left at a veteran’s gravesite. Keep in mind, a penny can be left by anyone, the other denominations are reserved only for veterans honoring their fellow serviceman.

On a musical note, Eric Spragg, the Family Service Advisor of Mount Olivet & Calvary Cemeteries in Great Falls, is now a registered bugler with Bugles Across America. Bugles Across America is a national non-profit organization that provides live buglers for the sounding of TAPS at military, first responders, policeman, and fireman’s funerals and burials. There is never a cost for this service. “Sound the Honor, Honor the Sound”. Anyone interested may call Eric at the Mount Olivet Cemetery Office at 406-453-8251 for more information.
