On March 21, 2024, the Solemnity of the Passing of St. Benedict, Brother Joseph (Craig) Thorgeirson pronounced solemn (life-long) vows of stability, obedience and conversion of life at Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND.

Brother Joseph was born on September 18, 1988, in Portage La Prairie, MB, Canada. He and his family moved to Denver, CO, in 2002. He became a Roman Catholic at the Easter Vigil 2017 in Billings, MT, at Saint Patrick co-cathedral. That same year, he made his first visit to Assumption Abbey. He entered the abbey in September of 2018. After a candidacy of six months and a novitiate for one year and a day, Brother Joseph pronounced simple vows in April of 2020.

Among his duties at the abbey he has been infirmarian and will likely continue studies in nursing.

Brother Joseph says that the strengths he draws from monastic life are many: community support, spiritual guidance, the structure of the Benedictine horarium (daily schedule), mutual witness in Christian life, the opportunity for patience and charity and the strength of prayer.
