SISTER MARIE DAMIAN GLATT . . . The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Marie Damian Glatt, 84, educator and health care administrator, who died on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, Kansas.

Loretta Glatt was born in Roscoe, South Dakota, on September 24, 1931, one of five children of Fred and Eva Meier Glatt. Later, the family moved to Columbus and then to Billings, Montana. She graduated from Billings Central Catholic High School, Billings. Loretta entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on August 18, 1949, and, as Sister Marie Damian Glatt, made her profession of vows on August 15, 1951.

​Sister Marie Damian taught and was principal of elementary schools across the West and Midwest, and served as director of elementary education for the Denver Archdiocesan School Office for three years. She was assistant director of the Montana Catholic Conference in the late 1970s. Sister was next assigned to Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Denver where she participated in the Fellowship in Administration Program. In 1986, she went to St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center, Billings, Montana, where she served as the director of the planning and outreach program. In 1987, Sister Marie Damian was appointed vice president of planning for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health Services Corporation. In 1992, she was elected to the SCL Community Council and served as president of the SCL Health Services Corporation. In March 2001, she accepted the position of mission director of the Oregon Providence Health System at Providence Office Park, Portland, Oregon. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, Kansas, and a master’s in health administration through the University of Colorado, Denver and Boulder.​

​Sister Marie Damian was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Eva Glatt, her brother Arnold, and her sister Dolores Rose. Survivors include brothers Larry, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jim (Diane), Bismarck, North Dakota; sister-in-law Lorie Glatt, Billings; many nieces, nephews, friends, and her SCL Community.

A vigil was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 21. Interment followed in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. R. L.
