St. Thomas Youth Camp is located south of Monarch, about 50 miles southeast of Great Falls. This camp was created 25 years ago, since then 1000’s of kids have been attending retreats, summer camp, weekend outings and learning about their faith. The camp can house and feed up to 60 students and councilors. As you might expect it takes a lot of work to maintain a camp of this size. Early in 2015 Bishop Warfel asked the Knights of Columbus if they could help with maintenance items before the start of the summer season this year. The word went out and early May of 2015 Knights from Miles City, Baker, Malta and Billings showed up to help out.

In four days the Knights cleared trails of trees, painted all or parts of several buildings, cleaned a storage shed that had been overtaken by packrats in the past year, hauled truck loads of brush and branches etc., and painted the entryway of a small one room church that had been moved onto the property this past spring. In addition we started a list of small projects like replacing door latches, fixing screens and other daily repair items that are constantly being attention.

The Knights had a good time, ate well, slept in good quarters and promised to be back again when the next big project needed to be worked on. There are 3 or 4 big projects yet to do but all of them need some planning and prep-work like cement foundations for a garage, pavilion, painting the climbing wall and siding the main lodge. These projects will be done in due time and when it’s time the Knights will be glad to offer our time and talents to help the church and to help our kids. Wheat Icon
