Celebrating Communion as a community on the 100th Celebration at Sacred Heart Church

Sacred Heart Church of Hobson celebrated its 100th Year Celebration beginning with a 12:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday, April 19, 2016. Local parishioners, former parishioners and friends attended Mass celebrated by our present priest Father Dom Pizzonia and former priest Father Terry Regan and Father Ray Nyquist. After Mass, a barbeque beef dinner and a beautiful decorated cake furnished by church member was served. Each family received a commemorative cup, and family pictures were taken.

Displayed in a case constructed from our old altar railing was memorabilia including antiques, our old Tabernacle, pictures and stories. A silent auction was held during the afternoon featuring a painting by Father Regan, a dinner at Rustlers Roost, hand creative decors, and antiques. It had been decided that a hand built grotto would be nice in commemorative of our Centennial.

Families met in Little Belt Mountains to pick rocks, and members were invited to bring a favorite rock, and all were placed into shape. Until a Sacred Heart statue is available, a statue of Blessed Virgin Mary has been loaned to adorn the grotto, that is lit up on special occasions.

When Mass first came to Hobson, it was held in the John Shea residence and served by a traveling priest from Roundup. In 1915, the building, thanks to donations from Catholics and Protestants, was built with Father John Molyneaux serving Mass. People sat on chairs until pews were obtained and also used a bedstead for an altar until a donated altar arrived. The church was renovated with a basement built housing a kitchen, hall, restroom, water supply and an updated heating system.

Religious classes were held upstairs and downstairs. When the new Hobson School was being built, the basement was used for the hot lunch program.

In 1983, members donated and purchased a stained glass window from St.Thomas Children home in Great Falls was placed behind the altar. Stained glass windows have been placed on each side of it. A side addition to cover the basement stairs and have a place for other needs
was added. In 2002, extensive remodeling, painting and carpeting were done.

Our little church has beautiful piano, electronic piano/organ, and guitar music led by two young cantors. Members clean the church, serve as Eucharist Ministers and Lectors, our Confirmation/First Communion students, Hobson Senior graduation class and our sick are
remembered. We send goodies for Valentine’s Day to our college students and shut ins.
