At the beginning of every school year, our Middle School teachers put on a fellowship day for their Middle School Students. Sixth, Seventh and eighth grades combine for the day and play games, have lunch and do fun activities for team building. This year, they also split into teams of 4-5, and each team was given $50.00 to spend at WalMart. Half was donated by the students, and the other half was matched by the school.Their mission was to buy as much non-perishable food as they could to feed a family of four. The competition was fierce, but they had a great time using their math skills to figure out how best to spend their money! In the end, over $500.00 worth of food was donated to our local Saint Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. The Pantry was THRILLED to receive so much, especially at the end of the month, when families are really trying to make it to the next pay-day. They then headed to the church social hall, where they had pizza and spent the afternoon playing Minute-to-Win-It games. The very best part of the day was a ‘coincidence’: When the manager of WalMart came out to introduce himself, and started chatting with the teachers, it was realized that his own Dad was actually being remembered in the school Mass intentions the next day. What a blessing and a real moment of Divine timing!
