St. Vincent de Paul Society of Cascade County

What a beautiful fall season we are in! To better serve you, our friends, St. Vincent de Paul has been very busy making changes in the store layout, in the warehouse and in our Angel Services processes. We hope you will come in to see these changes. If you would like a tour, we would be happy to accommodate and show you what has been achieved to date.

Our 2nd annual Friends of the Poor Walk/Run & BBQ/Auction was held on September 26. It turned out to be a beautiful day. Opening prayer was provided by Father Tim Valentine from The University of Great Falls. Several members of the community came to support our programs that have been in place here in Great Falls for 40+ years and give a hand to the most needy. During this same week Pope Francis came to the US and spoke before Congress, with many Americans watching, reminding us that every life is sacred, and we all need to give hope to, and fight constantly to protect all stages of life. We were reminded that feeding the hungry is one critical way to do so. We thank all of our generous donors, sponsors, volunteers and walkers. Pope Francis asked us to treat others not only with compassion, but with PASSION! That is what we strive to do every day at St. Vincent de Paul.

During the first six months of 2015 our Food Bank distributed 95.9 tons of food to 1481 families. Our Angel Services provided over $45,000 worth of clothing, household and furniture to 634 households, and our emergency financial services provided over $17,000 to 136 households. If you would like to help us help others, we have several opportunities for you to consider. Please call us today!

Town Pump has once again committed to matching up to $15,000 in donations for our Food Bank. Our Food Bank is one of the largest in Great Falls. We provide food directly to the needy at no cost to them. We purchase food in addition to the donations we receive. We appreciate the community support we have received in the past and look forward to matching that amount again this year. What an opportunity to multiply your giving!

We are having our Fall Blanket, Bedding, Sleeping Bag and Mattress Drive going on until Thanksgiving. We take them all…..new and clean used. If you collect a substantial amount, we would be happy to pick them up. Individuals can drop off any items at our store as well. Please help us keep those who are in need warm this winter!

It’s that time of year! We are gearing up for our annual Christmas food and gift giveaway for the needy on December 19 at the McLaughlin Center at the University of Great Falls. If you would like to pick up a tag to fill with a gift purchase, please visit our Web site at svdpgreatfalls.org for a list of Giving Tree locations or call us at 761-0111. There will also be a grocery list of items needed for the food boxes on the website and our Facebook page. If you know someone in need, we will be doing signups for the boxes on Fridays through November 20 from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. We love volunteers! If you can volunteer to help with signups, please call 761-0111.

In addition to recycling at the store, we now have accounts set up for donating recycling at Steel, Etc. or Pacific Steel. Take your recyclables directly there and they will issue your donation amount to us. They accept cardboard, paper, aluminum/tin cans, car batteries, junk cars, household appliances, household wire, extension cords, Christmas lights, copper, brass, radiators, aluminum scrap, stainless steel, lead, and elk/deer antlers. They do not accept rubber, glass, or wood.

Our food bank participates in the Hunters Against Hunger Campaign. The program is designed to get food directly to those who most need it. Anyone purchasing their hunting license can make a donation at that time. The contributions go to processors who participate in the program. You can donate all or part of your game through this program by taking it to these processors and asking them to send it to St. Vincent de Paul. Funds are limited to what is taken in. In Great Falls, House of Meats and Timberland Taxidermy and Processing are the two processors participating this year.

Please join us so we can help you act on the Pope’s message and live your faith.

If your business, club, or office would like more information on any of these projects, we are happy to get signage, etc. to you. We hope you will share this information. Thanks for any consideration! Visit our Web site is at svdpgreatfalls.org and our Facebook page and at facebook.com/NCMinGF. Follow us for sales updates and more.
