Final collection of donated canned foods awaiting transportation to various agencies for dissemination.

The purpose of this charitable project was to encourage council Knights of Columbus members and parishioners to contribute one can of food per day during the forty days of Lent in an effort to help families in the Great Falls community area meet their nutritional needs.

With a start date of Ash Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Council Knights began this project of collecting donated canned/packaged non-perishable food items. The intent of this project is a simple, one-can-per-day donation as inspired by Christ’s 40-days of fasting in the desert. Donations of food items were gathered on a weekly basis and stored pending their delivery to predetermined agencies from specific drop-off collection points within various Catholic churches in the Great Falls area.

The completion of the designated collection drive was Easter Sunday, April 16. As a result of this food drive, approximately 2400 pounds of canned food had been donated by Council Knights and gathered from collections at different drop-off and collection points/locations.

These donated foods were divided among local charities and transported to food pantries, community food banks and soup kitchens, which included St. Vincent de Paul Society Community Food Bank, for distribution to those in need.
