On June 23, 2015, Father Denis Kean died in Ireland after a long illness, which caused his early retirement from St. Agnes Parish in Red Lodge. While the funeral services and burial took place in his hometown, Seefin, in Ireland, a month’s-mind memorial Mass (an Irish custom one month after the funeral) is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., in Red Lodge, at St. Agnes Church.
He was a priest for the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings for fifty-two years. He served at various places in the Diocese, including, Lewistown, Great Falls (St. Joseph’s), Livingston, and Baker. In 1977 he took an educational sabbatical in Ireland, and returned to serve parishes in Great Falls (Sts. Peter and Paul), Wolf Point, Roundup, Chester, Chinook, Columbus, Great Falls (St. Ann’s), Stanford, Great Falls (St. Joseph), Fort Benton, and finally Red Lodge.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Maeve Keane, who lovingly cared for him in his illness. He was predeceased by: his brothers, Paddy, Frank, Martin, and Gerard; his sisters Maureen (Sister Fidelma, O.P.) and Philomena. He will be deeply missed by his sisters-in-law, niece, nephews, grandniece, grandnephews, cousins, bishop and fellow priests, his former parishioners and the people of Red Lodge, relatives and his many friends.
May he rest in peace. The Funeral Mass was on Friday, June 26, 2015, with burial afterwards in Ballymore Cemetery. Cawley’s Funeral Home, Craughwell, Galway, was in charge of arrangements.
