We can help.

Are you worried about the economy? Don’t feel as if you have as much to give to the Church this year? Actually, the good news for you is that there are many ways to help yourself at the same time that you are supporting the Catholic Church in our diocese (including your own parish). The Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana helps Catholics in our diocese with “planned gifts” year-round and we would be happy to work for you.

The most common planned gifts with the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana include:

Bequest
Giving a specific asset, a specific dollar amount, or a percentage of your estate through your will.

Naming a new beneficiary
Name the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, retirement account, etc. You can specify your gift for the most important needs, for a particular ministry, or for your own parish or Catholic school.

Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Unitrust
These are gifts that provides you income for life and tax benefits on the federal and state levels. Down the road, they will also leave a healthy gift to benefit the Church. By making your gift today, you do two things: Lock in a great income and tax plan for yourself and lock in a nice gift in the future for the Catholic Church.

Making gifts of appreciated assets
If you own appreciated assets such as stock or real estate, these make wonderful gifts because they benefit the Church, provide you with tax benefits, and allow you to avoid paying capital gains tax on a sale. In some instances, they can also be turned into a Charitable Gift Annuity for your own benefit.

For example – Jerry gives a gift of land to the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana, to benefit his own parish. This land is producing little to no income for Jerry, but he’s paying taxes on it and if he sells it, he could pay hefty capital gains taxes. Instead, Jerry deeds the property to the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana for the benefit of his parish’s permanent endowment, avoids paying capital gains taxes, benefits from excellent tax savings for his gift and locks in a lifetime income payment for himself at a rate higher than he could find elsewhere.
