K of C News Great Falls Coats for Kids 4
Participants in the coat give-way event

Local children in need get an opportunity to feel welcomed, protected and loved.

The winter coats needed for Council 9395’s second annual coats give-away were purchased through normal K of C supply channels in mid-October and stored until the event. Ten cases of winter coats, totaling $2,200.00, were purchased through Council fundraising efforts and private donations for the cause. Additional winter clothing items, such as glovers, scarves, stocking caps, slightly-worn used coats, which included adult-sized jackets/coats, were obtained by Council Knights through various channels, and were made available for this give-away project.

Plans were made in advance to host the event at the local Saint Vincent de Paul’s Thrift Store in Great Falls. This location served ideally because it enabled persons who lack their own transportation to and from the site of the give-away a chance to utilize the city’s public transit bus system to meet their needs. Moreover, our Council paid the round-trip bus fare for those attending this event.

The event was widely publicized in advance with notices placed in the local city newspaper, various news fliers, and in parish bulletins.

On the day of the event, Council Knights arrived early and set up for the project. Light refreshments and treats for provided to those persons and youth responding the coats give-away. Nearly all items available for handing out had in fact been handed out, to youth of all ages, and to include adults as well. This year’s winter coats and related winter gear give-away unquestionably surpassed that of last years by approximately 100 coats/winter clothing items. Submitted by Sylvester Barros, Grand Knight Council 9395, Great Falls.
