As Editor of The Harvest, I occasionally submit a book review if it concerns a Montana Catholic author, such as Andrew M. Seddon, a parishioner at St. Pius X Church in Billings. I have read several of his books, and this is the latest. To get to the heart of the matter when it comes to Catholic literature and ghost stories, I quote Sir Leslie Shane: “Ghost stories have always been found useful in the pulpit… if such stories had no other value, they made popular reinforcement to the true Gospel read from the altar… They might be true, or they might not, but they were edifying. At least they often left a moral or the fear of God in the memories of the listeners. (Shane Leslie’s Ghost Book, Sheed and Ward, 1956, 9-10).

Andrew Seddon’s stories feature an eclectic series of topics: Mysterious lights in a buried church, a half-glimpsed feature haunting a Montana ranch, an invisible stalker on a California trail, a shadowy priest who only appears on Good Friday… All of these mysterious tales are shared among a close circle of friends in a modern English village. Plus, there’s a romantic thread that runs from the beginning to the end. I highly recommend this light read.
