At the beginning of the holiday season at 9:00 on the morning of November 11, 2017, Pastor Father Julian Nix welcomed the Billings Vicariate Council of Catholic Women to St. Benedict Parish with Mass. The Roundup ladies then presented us with a Continental breakfast of home-made sticky buns and cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice!

The theme of the day was “I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13). The morning was devoted to leadership training, the marks of a successful council and how to form a new council. Everyone freely contributed ideas and suggestions, building an atmosphere of friendly sharing and sisterhood. The showing of the movie “Fatima: A Message of Hope” inspired attendees’ spirituality and promoted a richer prayer life for the sake of ending war and destruction in the world.

Roundup Knights of Columbus worked hard to provide a marvelous choice of soups and sandwich luncheon followed by ice cream sundaes and patitsa, made on site.

Keely McKave, CEO of the Yellowstone Area CASA, presented an informative talk on the necessity and benefits of Court Appointed Advocates for children in the foster care system. Unfortunately, of the 900+ children in the system, there are only enough advocates for about one fourth of the children. Those who are assigned advocates have a much higher chance of completing their education and going forward to successful lives than children without advocates. McKabe urged us to suggest being an advocate to people we know who care about children and their futures.

First time attendees received gifts and the Roundup ladies won the Traveling Trophy for having the most in attendance. It began to look a lot like Christmas as the day drew to a close with prayer and hugs all around as we said our goodbyes and headed home!
