BCCHS Music Students at the 2015 Music in the Parks Festival

Billings Central Teacher Makes a Difference
Codie Wahrman was recently named the Billings Catholic Schools Educator of the Year. Wahrman is the director of the band, pep band and jazz band at Billings Central Catholic High School, as well as the director of the orchestra and the head of the BCCHS Music Department. Wahrman has been at Billings Central since 2010. Under his guidance, the Billings Central music department has grown to include almost one third of the student body, and the group is incredibly active both in events at school and performing for the community of Billings. Wahrman received numerous nominations for the honor, including a nomination from student Zach Schermerhorn.

Schermerhorn explained that without Mr. Wahrman, he would not have continued as a band student after 7th grade. “He instantly changed my entire experience in band. He was so passionate about both the music itself and making sure that we as students played to our full potential. He wanted us to succeed even though we were just 7th graders and the sounds we made weren’t exactly musical.” Schermerhorn never quit band, playing throughout his high school years. He graduated from Billings Central this spring with the class of 2015, and for him, Mr. Wahrman’s influence reached far outside the walls of the school. “Mr. Wahrman has taught me so incredibly much and has taught me with such energy and passion that I can’t see myself being where I am today without his help. He has helped me both in the music world and in my life. I can’t think of another teacher who has helped me more throughout high school than him. I can’t think of another teacher who does more for the school than him. It is teachers like him who make the Catholic School System so special.” Wheat Icon
