Rev. Benjamin R. Lobo, 83, died in Mangalore, India, on January 26, 2016. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1963, in Jabalpur, India.

At the invitation of Rev. David Dwyer, Father Lobo came to the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings in January, 1992, and served at St. Patrick’s Co-Cathedral. In May of 1992, he moved to Miles City to serve as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart Parish. On August 1, 1995, he was moved to Sacred Heart Church in Glendive to serve as parochial vicar.

On September 5, 1995, he became an incardinated priest of this diocese. On July 1, 1997, he was named pastor of St. Anthony’s Church in Culbertson. On July 1, 1998, he was named pastor of St. Joseph Church in Plentywood.

Father Lobo retired on July 1, 2002, and returned home to India. He celebrated his 80th Birthday and 50th Anniversary in India in May of 2013. He enjoyed his retirement among family and friends, living at his home known as “Ben’s Ark” near Mangalore.

He was a dedicated and happy priest who touched many hearts. May he rest in peace! Wheat Icon
