Detroit, MI (June 12, 2015) … Tien Dinh, OFM Cap. and Tom Nguyen, OFM Cap., have been ordained as deacons, June 6 at Milwaukee’s St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Both are alumni of St. Lawrence Seminary High School, Mt. Calvary, WI.
Brother Tien recently graduated from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago with a Master in Divinity. He will move to St. Katharine Friary in Crow Agency, Montana where he will serve as a deacon at St. Dennis Parish in the Crow Nation Reservation, Montana. Brother Tien explains, “It has been a long and fruitful journey for me so far through academic study as well as ministering to others. I am very grateful for the support that my family, friends, and all the brothers in the Capuchin Order have given me. I am happy and delighted to be able to serve as a deacon to the People of God.”

Brother Tom continues, “I am so grateful for the love and support of all my family and friends that have walked with me on the journey of my discernment as a Capuchin Franciscan. I am especially grateful for the gift of the brothers and our life in fraternity within the Order. The brothers have inspired, challenged and loved me in ways that have shaped my heart and mind to be God’s instrument of Love. I look forward to the gift of ministry as an ordained minister and to open my life to how the People of God and the Holy Spirit will continue to shape and form me as I serve the Church in new and life-giving ways.”

​Brother Tom recently graduated from Concordia University Chicago with a Masters in Church Music (MCM) and Chicago’s Catholic Theological Union where he earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div.). He will be serving as deacon at the Solanus Casey Center and St. Ambrose Parish, Grosse Pointe Park, MI.

The Capuchins are an international community of friars modeling themselves after St. Francis of Assisi. The brothers of the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph, are headquartered in Detroit serve in a variety of ministries including social service, schools, chaplaincies, a retreat house and parishes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, Arizona, California, Nicaragua, and Panama. Established at Mt. Calvary Wisconsin in 1857, there are currently 170 members in the St. Joseph province.
